Up Onto The Downs
- Trails /
- Sussex /
The trail starts with a stiff climb but then it's (mostly) downhill. From Houghton Bridge (Amberley Station) the route takes you along the South Downs Way, up Amberley Mount to Rackham Hill, then looping down through Burpham and back along the edge of the River Arun floodplain. The section near the river can be heavy going after prolonged rain, but is usually fine in spring and summer. It includes Stoke and Burpham Churches, both worth visiting en route. The trail can also be enjoyed as a walk.
Assuming a constant pace and no stops, typically it will take 1 hour 2 minutes to cycle the distance and along the way 438 calories will be burnt.
