The Itchen Way is a footpath that follows the River Itchen from its source at Hinton Ampner House near Cheriton to the mouth of the river at Weston Point, Woolston.
If you are feeling fit you could walk the trail in one long day. However it would be much more pleasurable to spread it over several days or a week, with overnight stops in the villages and towns along the way. A three day schedule is:
- Hinton Ampner to Winchester (13 miles)
- Winchester to Eastleigh (8 miles)
- Eastleigh to Woolston (9 miles)
Assuming a constant pace and no stops, typically it will take 9 hours 38 minutes to walk the distance and along the way 2575 calories will be burnt.

Thinking about doing this walk with my children tomorrow, is the path way suitable to take a buggy?

There is very little of the route along the river that can be cycled. Much of it is narrow riverbank paths with no space to yield to pedestrians, and cycling is forbidden by local bye-laws on several long stretches.

Is it possible to join Southampton and Winchester by bike along the Itchen river? Apparently, there are some part of this way accessible to cycle but not all of them. We would like to enjoy this way by bike this weekend with my partner to take some pictures in the same time. Thank you in advance!

This was a nice route that I complete in one day, it was easy going and particularly picturesque between Eastleigh and Winchester. I did find, however, that the waymarkers weren't well thought through. There were a lot where they weren't needed (particularly at the beginning), but when there was a need for routefinding, they were nowhere to be seen.
