Devon Coast to Coast
An easy cycle ride across the South West Peninsula of Britain from Ilfracombe harbour on the Atlantic Coast to Plymouth Hoe on the English Channel. The route mainly follows cycle paths along disused railway lines, passing through the important market towns of Barnstable, Bideford, Okehampton and Tavistock.

- Ilfracombe - Plymouth
Most people cycle from north to south, as an evening at the Barbican in Plymouth is a great way to finish the trip. However you can of course start in Plymouth and finish in Ilfracombe.
The distances shown are a guide only and depend on the accommodation you choose each night. Large groups may need to use hotels and inns in towns nearby.
As the trail is along good tracks and there are long sections of flat surface, cycling the distance over a weekend is within the ability of most regular cyclists. Note however that good accommodation can be difficult to find in Okehampton town centre.
Day 1 - Cycle from Ilfracombe to Okehampton - 56 miles / 90 kms
Day 2 - Cycle from Okehampton to Plymouth - 41 miles / 66 kms
A 3 day cycling trip gives more time to experience the area and stop for lunch. Return transfers for your group and bikes from Plymouth to your parked cars in Ilfracombe take 2 hours 15 minutes.
Day 1 - Cycle from Ilfracombe to Great Torrington - 30 miles / 48 kms
Day 2 - Cycle from Great Torrington to Lydford - 37 miles / 60 kms
Day 3 - Cycle from Lydford to Plymouth - 30 miles / 48 kms

Hotels & Inns

When booking accommodation ask if there is secure storage for your bikes and the time breakfast is served in the morning. All should be able to provide packed lunches. For those starting late or cycling long distances, check when evening meals end. If you plan to arrive mid afternoon check that the country inns are open as many close between 3 and 6 pm.
